Organic Matcha

Certified organic. Japanese matcha.
Shade-grown in one of Japan's oldest tea regions.

A unique
organic matcha

Our premium organic matcha is sourced from Makinohara in Shizuoka, a historic tea-growing region whose terraced fields date back to the 8th century. Generations of farmers have shaped this land, passing down a craft refined over more than a thousand years.

What sets Makinohara apart is the rare balance of conditions found here: mineral-rich volcanic soil, cool morning mists rolling off the mountains, long hours of gentle sunlight, and pure spring water. Together they coax a depth of flavour, a vivid jade colour, and a smooth umami sweetness that defines truly exceptional matcha.

We work directly with a small group of contracted family farms who cultivate without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides. Every leaf is shade-grown, hand-selected from the first spring harvest, and stone-ground in the traditional way — slowly, patiently, and with care.

Everything
you need
to know

  • Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, where the leaves are steeped and discarded, matcha is whisked into water — so you consume the entire leaf and all its nutrients.

  • Organic matcha is cultivated without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or chemicals — ensuring a purer product, both for your health and the environment. Our matcha is certified organic and sourced from Shizuoka, Japan.

  • Matcha is rich in antioxidants, especially catechins like EGCG, which may support metabolism, heart health, and cellular protection. It also contains L-theanine, which promotes calm focus, and a moderate amount of caffeine for sustained energy without jitters.

  • Sift half to one teaspoon into a bowl, add 70 ml of hot (not boiling) water at around 75°C, and whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion until frothy. It also works beautifully in lattes, smoothies, and baking.

  • Yes — about 30–70 mg per serving, less than coffee but more than regular green tea. Combined with L-theanine, the result is a more balanced, calm energy boost without the crash.

  • Our matcha is tested for heavy metals, radiation, and pesticides. It is 100% organic, vegan, and non-GMO — certified under JAS, FSSC 22000, NOP, and EU Organic standards.

  • High-quality organic matcha has a smooth, rich umami flavor with a hint of natural sweetness and a very slight bitterness. Lower-quality matcha may taste more bitter or grassy.

  • Matcha is sensitive to light, heat, and air. Keep it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place — ideally in the fridge. Always reseal the container tightly after use to preserve freshness, color, and flavor.

  • Yes! Matcha can be added to smoothies, energy balls, baked goods, ice cream, and more. For culinary use, opt for a slightly lower grade of matcha than ceremonial, unless you want a more premium flavor.

  • Ceremonial grade matcha is made from the youngest, most tender tea leaves and is intended for drinking plain with water. Culinary grade is made from more mature leaves and is better suited for mixing into recipes.
